the easiest is to make a grayscale picture and save it as 8-bit-bmp. If your program does not offer you that possibility, gimp can do that. I have done it a few times, successfully.

Giving TESAnnwynn the right import-arguments so its producing the right result, is yet another topic.

Didn't SGMonkey already give you a Valenwood-Heightmap btw? What was wrong about that one?

oh, that ones fine. i've been working on it heaps, just need to get my laptop back so i can make the trees.

i just really want to learn this, one of the things i've always wanted to do.
so far though, every time i try something it goes like this:

http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49 ... annwyn.jpg
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/1345/highrock.png
(i'm not working on highrock... just working on heightmaps)/.

everyone makes it look so easy... and i've tried gimp, that highrock is from a 16-bit-bmp from gimp.../

You are not going to succeed in modifying a heightmap in another image-format but 8-bit greyscale-bmp.

ok, been doing alot on heightmaps today. it's practically working! needs to be resized ofcourse, but it's easier to keep tweeking it when it it's still small. (sorta, faster to load).

So you gonna take up where SGMonkey left off and create the missing provinces heightmaps wolli? That would be neat. I like knowing exactly who to go to for heightmap needs.

I had seen them, but if you were gone then they might as well have not existed. I know you were joking, just pointing that little detail out.

You have a good point. But anyway, if you know of anyone wanting to start a Summerset Isle, Valenwood, Elsweyr, Argonia, Hammerfell, Pyandonea, Yokuda or Thras mod let me know :P
