PC_Cow_?, PC_Bull_?[Reviewing]

Postby Worsas » 16 Jul 2014, 23:54

Cows and Bulls for cyrodilic farms, based on the cow I made for the Skyrim mod.

Took a crack at this claim, but didn't realize that there was another cow model you wanted to use (I'm not involved with SHotN at all). Personally, I find it a little too rough and rugged for Cyrodiil- basically the same problem I have with using SHotN's minotaur (though for lack of better options I've come to accept it), Skyrim is a harsher place than Cyrodiil and its wildlife should reflect that. I retextured Cait's steer instead and fixed some of the more glaring UV issues, I'd personally rather we fix that up and bring it up to standard.

It's unisex at this point, but I can easily do the version with the udder instead. Or if everyone else is totally against it I can certainly stick with the SHotN version.

Caits goats and horses are somewhat ok, that's why we are using them in Skyrim aswell, but caits cattle are absolutely a no-go (sorry). That's why I made a new cow (based on another open-availible cow model) and animated it from scratch. The animation isn't actually brilliant either, but still much better.

My plan was that the claimant should go ahead and change the proportions of the cow, where needed.

Gonna go ahead and claim the texture work on this, to round out the farm animals (and to match it to my minotaur textures). Cow texture is WIP, I need to tweak the colors and shading still. The head proportions on both really need to be adjusted as well, as well as giving the minotaur proper bull's horns.

I'm a tiny bit concerned that the wildebeest becomes a touch too apparent when we put it on a straight-up cow, but others can be the judge. I'd really like lyre-shaped horns (http://www.uark.edu/campus-resources/dlevine/Rhyton.jpg) on both, which would make the texture source marginally less transparent.

I don't think it is too apparent, I do like those horns though.

Alright, not quite a full-fledged concept art but here's a quick paintover with my recommendations for the model: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ru8uq59qx604 ... ntover.png

It looks good. I would only make the bull head as short as that, though and let the cow mouth a bit longer. I think I've wanted to give the minotaur different horns at some point but may have had issues with getting it into blender and exported properly, but I don'T know anymore right now.

When you upload your texture, I will look into the needed mesh-modifications.

I really like the way that looks, very nice. Also it is quite similar to the concept I came up with for the Sutch banner which is a cool little connection.

I like it all but the colour of the nose...mammals tend to have black noses...

Hats off to you, Jiub. I really like it!

Just an idea connected to this creature: I think it would add a lot of flavour if a version of this mesh could be made with the simple addition of a cowbell (of any shape) hung around the neck. A simple script could be attached to the creature to play an appropriate sound at appropriate intervals, so you could have the sounds of the creature itself running alongside the cowbell-sound.

These could be placed one or two per herd (I'm guessing that as these are supposed to be domesticated animals, they will be placed rather than randomly spawned, at least to some extent).

Again, good work!

I'll continue with the uploaded material and reviewing the other animals once P:C-Data has been updated.

A small update on the cow. The head now is shorter and a bit smaller than the skyrim version.

For the bull I intend to follow the above suggestion more closely. The whole neck area and the horns will be larger aswell, obviously.

Finished.

Screen of a short ingame test. There is a version of the bull with a ring in the nose aswell.

Lovely work. The only comment I could have is that they seem a little long, thought that maybe due to the angle of your screenshot.

There was not much to be done about these.
