New Laptops

Postby Tarius » 27 Jun 2013, 01:38

Alright, so within the next month, think I will get a new laptop. Why? Because I cant transport a desktop around very easily. And because my computer is finally reaching its limit, both memory wise and what I can run on it.
I have decided to set a hard $2000 limit here.(although cheaper is plenty fine of course)
Its gotta have a good graphics card of a rating preferably above ~1900-2000 on this list: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
It must have 2 hard drives, solid state is a big plus(even if it counts as a third hard drive). Space amount isnt an issue here as long as its a least 500gb combined space.(Something like 2tb is overkill though)
Must have 8gb of ram, more than that is overkill because I dont do video editing or anything.
Screen must be about 17in. no smaller no larger
(most laptops come with at least 3 usb ports so that shouldnt be a problem; my current laptop has 6! haha)
Basically, does anyone know of any good laptops that fit this? Of course I am researching myself, but just in case someone knows of a good one, thought I would post this.
Best I have found so far is: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cde ... 2000098978
from toshiba anyway. Still looking at MSI or Asus, but Asus doesnt seem to have a good selection. I also heard the plastic material used by MSI is kinda flimsy though, we will see.
So, if anyone knows of a good one, feel free to say something

Something like this? I know its from an English site but you will find it elsewhere. (I always assumed you were English btw...)

You may also like this. GPU has a higher rating. Amongst other differences.

MSI laptops are pretty shit hot if you ask me. (Been building computers for years btw. Its my business :))

EDIT: Note to self. Update link colours.

A razor laptop here. This one is at the top end moneywise, I have seen a less expensive one in the gamestop magazine.
If i could afford a new laptop i would go with this or an alienware. But right now my built desktop is just fine for me.

Actually I am from the US east coast. I believe this is the first time someone has thought I was something other than American.(is it because I am not an idiot at english?) Will look at those links later.

I recall a picture of you standing over a tree, are there being something about a location involved. Always assumed you were from Denmark or around.

Lower end than the one i suggested :)

Also. Alienware are good, but no better than MSI. Alienware are just Dell laptops with an alienware sticker. Overpriced and overrated.

Ok, what the heck gave everyone the impression that I am from Europe?

Anyway, those are over my price limit and dont have as good a video card.

This might be a good place. I will be using the toshiba laptop as my baseline. If I cant find something as good in the next couple days, I will get the toshiba one because they are having a sale on it and I will save a few hundred dollars.

Well I think I "narrowed" it down and its morelike its come down to style type issues. Decided to forego Asus based on numerous heating issues.
Toshiba, also has issues, but I haveone now and it works perfectly. I may forego that because its kinda luck based.
So I think its come down to this:
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cde ... 2000098978
I could go with this one just as a hand waving be done with it and it would be fine.
http://www.sagernotebook.com/Gaming_Special_Intel.html The two $1449 ones. They have finger print readers! My current one has a finger print reader.
http://www.powernotebooks.com/17-inch-c ... at-25.html A couple different ones from that page. I kinda like the sager stats, but they look god awful plain and blocky. Plus unless I missed it, they dont have any external speakers.

Computer has likely been chosen.
http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-gt70-2oc065u ... figure=yes
Thermal compound and copper cooling upgrade
256GB Crucial Solid State mSATA III
750GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Buffer (Serial-ATA II)
6X Blu-Ray Reader + 8X DVDRW/CDRW Super Multi Combo Drive
REGULAR PRICE
$1876.00
3% CASH DISCOUNT (?)
-$56.28
CASH DISCOUNTED PRICE
$1819.72 Total

For $45 more I could get it over clocked, but not sure I care to do that. I could do it myself, but I have never overclocked anything before.
For $25 more I could get 12gb of ram instead of 8gb, but I still cant think of why I would need that much. I suppose I could add more later if needed, but its a bit cheaper to add it right now.
Would have loved to have a finger print reader like my current computer has, but its not built in.

Actually, I wouldn't overclock on a laptop at all. Even if you knew exactly what you were doing.

Yea, think I would forego the over clocking based on that I cant be sure how hot it will get. Still unsure if I really need more ram though, probably not.

Anyway, you shouldnt put a laptop on your lap really. not only can you end up blocking vents, but guys in particular can have a certain issue due to the heat there...
